INTRO: 'StringLESS'' are a 6 member female vocal group from Thessaloniki, Greece which was founded in 2013. The name StringLESS is a word pun on the English word meaning ''without strings'' and the Greek onomatopoeic word meaning ''shrews'', mythical creatures of the Greek folk tradition. Their repertoire is based on Greek folk songs from Epirus, Pontus, and Macedonia, as well from traditions that were present in and around Thessaloniki (Bulgarian, Albanian, a.o. ), the early urban tradition of Smyrna, the so-called retro songs of the 30’s, and the Rembetiko of Piraeus, while occasionally they include other traditions. Their self-devised polyphonic orchestrations are unorthodox and interesting and create a whole new take on these songs, while the dynamic of their concerts moves from hauntingly beautiful and deeply serious songs to upbeat and funny interpretations of Greek retro songs, all the while keeping a light and cheerful disposition and never taking themselves too seriously.
