INTRO: Markus Stockhausen is as much at home in jazz as in contemporary and classical music. For about 25 years he collaborated closely with his father, the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, who composed many beautiful works for him. With his brother Simon he realised several internationally acclaimed musical projects. As soloist, improviser and composer Markus Stockhausen is in international demand. He leads or collaborates in various ensembles with musicians like Arild Andersen, Patrice Héral, Mark Nauseef, Jörg Brinkmann, Angelo Comisso, Christian Thomé, Ferenc Snétberger, Florian Weber, and plays intuitive music in the duo Moving Sounds with his wife the clarinettist Tara Bouman.
CURRENT PROJECTS:MOVING SOUNDS - BOOKING WORLD WIDE Markus Stockhausen - Trumpet, FlügelhornTara Bouman - clarinet, bass clarinet Tara Bouman and Markus Stockhausen have been performing as the duo MOVING SOUNDS since 2002. The repertoire includes compositions by both artists as well as improvisation and, above all, “intuitive music”. Their programme is decided spontaneously and in accordance with the acoustic qualities of the space in which they are playing, the time and the people present. They take their listeners on a musical journey of discovery. The wide spectrum of sound experience which MOVING SOUNDS creates – ranging from deeply entrenched profundity via good-humoured whizzing and whirring to eruptive eccentricity – is highly appreciated by music critics and audiences alike. The two musicians prefer to play in venues with special acoustic qualities such as churches or museums where the extraordinary sound qualities of the wind duo can unfold at their best. INSIDE OUT - BOOKING WORLD WIDE EXCEPT EUROPE Markus Stockhausen - trumpet, FlügelhornFlorian Weber, piano CD “Alba” on ECM Records released in 2016: https://www.ecmrecords.com/catalogue/1458047902/alba-markus-stockhausen-florian-weber Enthusiasm coupled with outstanding ability. INSIDE OUT brings together two of Germany and Europe’s finest improvising musicians: Florian Weber, Echo and WDR Jazz award winner and Markus Stockhausen, the renowned trumpeter and composer and also WDR Jazz award winner are both masters of their trade. Both are classically-trained performers deeply interested in the process of creative expression… of looking INSIDE and OUT… with intensity at things, searching for echoes, resonance – insights. They have been playing together since 2008 and have not, in that time, lost their love of experimentation. Rich and colourful compositions from both musicians can be heard, inspired improvisation and intuitive musicality unite to become a harmonious entity while unimaginable sounds are coaxed from the instruments. QUADRIVIUM - BOOKING WORLD WIDE EXCEPT EUROPE Markus Stockhausen - trumpet, FlügelhornJörg Brinkmann - celloAngelo Comisso - pianoChristian Thomé - drums The music of QUADRIVIUM is clearly shaped by the roots of European art music. Stockhausen’s, Comisso’s and Brinkmann’s compositions form a harmonious synthesis with the art of improvisation with a lightness, a kind of playfulness, strong emotional expressions and also sometimes humorous. All four musicians are virtuosos on their instruments and have a broad palette of playing experience. Electronic sounds enhance the group’s sound scapes. The music feels close to jazz, but can amaze a more classically – or contemporary – minded audience just as much.
